The kick-off meeting of the TRIFFID project took place on the 7th and 8th of November 2024 in Athens, in the charming setting of the Harokopio University. The Harokopio University coordinates a 13 partners strong consortium who will work towards the integration of modern technologies, notably unmanned aerial and ground vehicles (UAV and UGV), in a platform supporting first responders’ search and rescue operations in the aftermath of natural disasters. The meeting was animated by three first responders’ groups, the” end- users”, from Greece, France, and the Netherlands, and by computer scientists and technology developers from Greece, Spain, Italy, and the Cech Republic. The main role of CDSL-VUB will be to ensure that research activities involving robots and human participants, processing of personal data, the application of artificial intelligence technologies, cybersecurity are aligned with relevant legislation and recognised ethics in research standards. To this end, CDSL-VUB will conduct a participatory impact assessment and seek the views of an external ethical advisor, appointed at the onset of the project.
