Afroditi Papathanasopoulou
Biography
Afroditi joined the Cyber & Data Security Lab (CDSL) within the Research Group on Law, Science, Technology, and Society (LSTS) at VUB's Faculty of Law and Criminology in October 2023, as a PhD Candidate and Researcher. Her doctoral research centers on the interplay of technology and corporate law with a specific emphasis on the ramifications of artificial intelligence in the corporate governance landscape. Her research interests focus on corporate and financial law, artificial intelligence, data governance and digitalization policy.
In 2019, she obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Athens Law School, graduating among the top 5% of her class. Additionally, she holds an LLM in Business Law, specializing in Corporate Law & Finance, from the same university, where she graduated with an excellent academic record. Her master's thesis, "Shareholder Activism and Emerging Legal Issues," earned a perfect grade (10/10) and has been published by one of Greece's most esteemed legal publishers, Nomiki Bibliothiki Publications, as part of the "Studies of Business Law" book series.
Afroditi is a qualified lawyer and member of the Athens Bar Association in Greece. Before moving to Belgium and joining CDSL, she worked as an associate lawyer at an Athens-based law firm, where her practice focused on commercial, corporate, banking, and securities law. This followed her completion of a legal traineeship at the Bank of Greece.
